USCG Registered Vessel Sales Tax

Hello! We are purchasing a USCG Registered boat whose hailing port in New Orleans (where there is a 0% sales tax on isolated boat sales) but our residency is in TX (where there is a 6.25% sales tax). Can we leave boat's hailing port as New Orleans and not pay the sales tax? Or do we have to pay the Texas tax because that is our state of residency? Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

Federal documentation does not relieve you of paying tax. If you bring the boat to TX, you will be liable for TX sales tax. The "home port" painted on the transom means nothing tax wise.

Similar question:

1. Vessel was California registered and purchased in Marshall Islands.

2. Listed home port as Hawaii.

3. Have never taken vessel to USA in 8 years.

4. Now thinking about going to Guam. First time in US. Will I owe a sales tax to Guam?
