Who should I get Insurance quotes from?

So far I have quotes from -

Pantaenius - 2% - no named storms, Agreed Value

https://www.edwardwilliam.com/ - ~1.2%, Storm Plan Option, Agreed Value

Bluewater Yacht Insurance - ~1.2%, Storm Plan Option, Agreed Value

I'm still reading fine print

Who else should I contact?

Thanks
Paul

Expect he's long-retired, but might still offer some useful advice.

Re: Who should I get Insurance quotes from?

Where are you located Paul?
If you're in the states, Geico and BOAT/US are the same company now but for some reason, Geico is a bit cheaper for the same coverage. I bought my Geico policy through Gary Golden (Al's son) at IMIS/Gowrie Group.
The companies you are looking at are really good ones, but some of the most expensive out there, IMHP.
Insurance is a necessary evil, spending lots of $$$ and possibly never using it. I have one claim in 30 years of boating, due to vandalism.

I guess that takes care of BOAT/US/Geico as I do not believe they have an International policy, could be wrong but I don't think so. IMIS/Gowrie is still a viable source to contact though as they broker several companies.

In Oz I have found Club Marine very good, have been using them for years. Not sure if they cover outside of Oz, my policy has a 250NM limit.

I don't know if you can get Progressive insurance in Oz but they gave me the best rates.

I would let an insurance broker do the ground work for me.

Stay away from Edward William. Just google them...... I learned the hard way. I bought a policy through them in January for $1500, and the underwriter went bankrupt 2 months later. Total write-off.

I agree totally.

Eileen Salerno has always done a good job for me all around the US, she gives me quotes from various ins companies and seems to always get the best rates.

You can call her at 732-706-1900

Contact the Marine Trawlers Owners Association MTOA for their members only policies. We joined for $60 a year and saved that many times over. Our policy is with Merkel through the Jack Martin agency and had better terms at a lower rate than we could have gotten without MTOA membership. Plus the service through Jack Martin is excellent.

You're lucky, Paul - at least from the insurance point of view.
I would go with Pantaenius. They're the experts, worldwide, with excellent service and pricing. I went with them for years, internationally, but unfortunately, they no longer insure in the US, so as of August had to go with a US carrier.

Re: Who should I get Insurance quotes from?

I used Gowrie for quotes, and ended up with Markel for the policy. I've been super happy with them so far, through 2 hurricane prep claims (my policy covers 50% of costs incurred to prepare for a hurricane) and one claim for a damaged dinghy. Haven't seen the impact to my premium since the dinghy claim, but their response to the actual incident was lovely.
