Google Maps

Anyone else use google maps for sharing info? Just started playing around with them and seems V good. Couple of examples.....

Next time might even take hand held gps to get exact positions of the various offices when checking in.

I think these maps can be valuable.
However, the more data you add to the maps (pushpins, text descriptions, etc.) you have to ask yourself if the map at Google is the best place to store all this stuff.

How searchable is it.
Can we attach images, documents and other info there?
If not (I don't think so at the moment), then it may not be the best place to anchor all the info to.

I prefer wikis, and then embed the Google maps inside of the relevant wiki pages, so that all the text context is there and searchable.

But as far as quick maps to give some info on something specific, they are quite awesome. Guess we'll see how it all comes out.

Hard drives are up to two terabytes now. I wonder how much surface area of the planet that would cover on the all the way zoomed in scale in Google maps?

Any ideas?

Good point about searchable, it does seem so but only inside maps, not in google itself, but then put anchorage canaries in google you get a lot! I creeated the pushpins in google earth but found my web server does´nt like kml files so loaded them into google maps, think pics are no problem and web links too.

Too easy:

From Google query: 150 Mm2 = 150e6 km2 = 150e12 m2

If it's 1m resolution (?) figure 2 bytes per square meter: 300e12 B

300e12 B = 300 TB
