Matt Rutherford Crossing Pacific in Daysailor for Science

Hi Folks,

Matt Rutherford is currently crossing the Pacific nonstop from California to Japan doing "the worlds first continent to continent marine plastic survey". He is doing it in a 29 foot sailboat with a partner, scientist Nicole Trenholm.

I think this is pretty badass. What say the web, awesome, foolish or what?

Badass? Maybe but I find it more as terribly interesting in understanding what drives him. He certainly has the capacity to endure and stay connected to his goals no matter what. I discovered this guy and his blog when he was on the final quarter of his solo around the Americas. Whatever's been written since, I don't think the full story has been told yet about what his experiences represent. He's a unique character. http://thesailingpodcast.com/mattrutherford/

I met Matt at the boat show">Annapolis Boat show 2 years ago. He's a very focused and really nice guy. He seems to be very soft spoken which is amazing when you read about his trip around the americas. His life as a child was not very productive to say the least. He's found his passion, he's really good at it and it's all for unselfish causes. Since I measure people by their actions, not their words I think he's badass and awesome for sure. Read about his life and solo sail around the Americas then decide for yourself.
