Mooring near New York

Hi all!

We are a British boat making landfall in the USA for the first time in May in New York. I need to find a marina where I can leave a 50ft cat for a few weeks without breaking the bank if that's possible, and wondered if anyone has any recommendations.

I have looked at Active Captain but there are just so many options on there its a bit overwhelming, and not knowing the geography doesn't help. Many of them have maximum length of only 30 or 40 feet so sorting out which is any good is very long winded with Active Captain.

Any suggestions gratefully received, we don't need to be 'in' NY, just within striking distance of JFK.

Thanks in anticipation

Rob

Re: Mooring near New York

Sail up to City Island (Long Island Sound) and transient mooring from one of the yacht clubs there.

Re: Mooring near New York

Harlem Yacht Club on City Island has good moorings without much wash from traffic and is a terrific friendly place. Very cheap weekly rate. They have good tender service, are a couple minutes walk to bus (need correct change..$2.50? .. In quarters) and take you to train from Pelham to Manhattan in about an hour max.....Google it. Highly recommend and would stay there again. And good bar & restaurant. Really helpful and nice people. Top spot.
Like you, couldn't find a marina for a boat over 40ft that was either big enough, didn't have a serious wash issue, and/or was of reasonable cost. Good luck.
