Re: Turkey to Australia via Cape of Good Hope

Might be easier and more pleasant to just go west (Atlantic and Pacific) to Australia. The right season for that is just coming up (end of Atlantic hurricane season).

It's can be hard going east from Cape Hope to Australia (we have done it).

Listen to Jamel and Estarzinger. Go west, youngsters! Not east! Enjoy the tropics and the trades. Forget about S Africa and the southern ocean!

Re: Turkey to Australia via Cape of Good Hope

Perths a lovely place to go to .... but I'm another who suggests with your description of the boat and the lack of experience, you go the easier way via Carib and Pacific.

No sea crossing is a guaranteed milk run - but the Atlantic / Pacic option is far better than tackling the Southern Ocean.

I can't get to your pictures on facebook but you infer the boats Australian registered. Unusual to find a twin keeled 60 footer but if it did make it from Oz to Turkey and you're prepping it correctly for a return run I'd not worry about it making it back in one piece.

But 60 foot is also a big boat - do you not think maybe big enough for you to contemplate some more experienced crew as company? I know strangers as crew could bring challenges - but overall in your situation, it might be less of a challenge than doing it two handed.

Good luck.

Re: Turkey to Australia via Cape of Good Hope

thanks to you all. your advice is greatly appreciated. even though perth is our destination your concerns were the same concerns we had, so we are now currently exploring the costs of getting through the panama canal and island hopping to australia. thanks again
