2'fer...Mail Service in NH, and Dealing with Bugs

As we are working through our cruising preparation checklist we have 2 new questions:

1. Does anyone know of a mail service like SBI that is in New Hampshire?

2. Is dealing with bugs on the boat (like roaches) an issue? How do you deal with it (preventative and post infestation)? Is it worse in certain areas of east coast US, Bahamas, Caribbean?

Can't help with Q1 but there was a very recent thread on Roaches on boats. Yes they can be a problem and they do love tropical climates. Down island they get so large that they call them mahogany birds.

If you haven't found it yet, go to the "Search Forum" space on the left side of the page and type in "Roaches". There's a massive string on the subject.

You do realize that if you are out cruising it doesn't make any difference I can see where your mail forwarding service is located? You can always try your local UPS store.

Mail Service

FSMike,

Yes, I do realize that it doesn't matter where the mail service is while you are cruising, except when establishing residency. New Hampshire seems to offer a good place to establish residency from a tax perspective, therefore we were looking for a way to do that through a mail service.

Thanks everyone for your help.

New Hampshire does not have a formal procedure for establishing residency.
Anyone wanting to establish N.H. residency must provide some form of tangible proof that they are living in the state. Acceptable forms of proof include drivers license, utility bill, rental or mortgage payment, and vehicle registration.

New Hampshire is not unique in having no State income tax (eg: Florida).

Beware, NH is not quite free of income taxes. Unlike Florida and some other states:
"Interest and Dividends:
A 5% tax is levied on interest and dividends in excess $2,400 ($4,800 if file jointly) earned annually. "

So if you have subtantial income from those sources--NH wants a piece of it.

Many Thanks

Thank you everyone for your posts.

Sounds like Florida is the best place to establish residency via a service like SBI.

Also, I did see the thread about the roaches and it was very helpful. Don't know how I missed that one in the search!
