Advice - Making the Cabin Cozier

Hello!
I am looking for ideas on how to help brighten up my cabin and make it a little cozier.

We have a 17’ Pocket Cruiser, so it has a cabin, but it’s a little snug. My kids and occasionally my wife like to hunker down there sometimes to get out of the sun, so I want to “update”/clean up the space to make it a little nicer to hang out in. It feels dark and there isn’t alot of airflow.

A couple of my current thoughts are:
  • Add a hatch to the hull above the V-Berth, closer to the bow. This would be adding a new hole to the main-deck… but I was thinking it’d help with the airflow issue.
  • Making the angular windows open. Currently, these windows don’t open. They are also cracked, so I am going to need to replace or repair them soon anyway. I have no idea how to do this beyond finding a slightly larger porthole and cutting the holes bigger, but… It was a potential thought.
  • Updating the cushion Fabric. I think the brown of those cushions could use some love.. I was thinking of going brighter - Maybe a light gray or blue but I am open to ideas.
  • LED Light Strip Cabin Lighting. This was more of an extra as we aren’t really on the boat much at night, but I thought it could be cool to run a soft white LED light strip along the upper lip of where the hull cuts back in. I’d run it from the port-side bunk, up into the bow, then back to the starboard side bunk

I have a few other thoughts as well but I’d love to hear if people have other ideas or suggestions.

Thank you!
