Any Winter Liveaboard marinas on the Hudson or in the region?

Hi,

Planning to start living aboard in the region around Hudson or up north on the coast but I'm unsure of how harsh the winter gets in this region.

Do marinas offer bubblers during winter?

I read that the Hudson river gets very icy during winter and icebreakers push the ice sideways into marinas. So boats can get damaged even with bubblers. Is this how it works out?

Any chance to spend the winter without going dry with the boat or lifting up on those inflating things that keep you off the water?

30 foot boat.

Thank you!

There are a few. Try around liberty landing, but be prepared for some sticker shock.

Any exposed marina in an area with ice has a problem, even without icebreakers. Wind and/or currents can push "icebergs" into the marina and cause significant damage. Also, in tidal areas, as a sheet of ice forms, it can freeze to pilings at low tide, and lift them out of the bottom as the tide rises, which kind of sucks if you happen to be tied to it... In ice prone areas almost nobody leaves floating docks in the water over the winter. And none of the marinas I have seen have water out on the docks in freezing weather.

It is POSSIBLE to find a place, but it is a very difficult life on a boat when it is 0ºF outside. You have to be a very hardy soul.

As for circulators to keep ice away from your boat, in every place I have ever been, if you want one, you buy it and pay for the power to run it. And then hope long and hard that there is not a power failure on the coldest night of the year.

My friend has bubblers for the winter but this is on the C and D canal in Delaware. The chance of ice there is not as severe but still sub-freezing temps will occur. You may have to go south a bit for the winter.
