Charleston SC

Thinking of moving the boat to Charleston. Used to mooring/anchoring out in the Keys. Down here having a place to securely leave the dinghy to go to work etc is the hardest part.

Suggestions for that in Charleston? Don't mind paying a fee.

Re: Charleston SC

There's an achorage on the Ashley River, other side of the river (eastward) from the "Megadock" (Charleston City Marina) and The Harborage. You might be able to arrange dinghy docking at the city marina.

The Harborage condo marina is slightly further upriver and may or may not be able to help.

There might be other solutions on the Cooper River or further away on the Stono River.

There is a free dinghy dock on the backside of the harborage.

Re: Charleston SC

I keep a boat in the Ashley "mooring field" and it has gotten increasingly crowded in the past 10 years. I am lucky enough to have private dock access to launch dink to get to my boat. I am pretty sure all three Ashley river marinas; Safeharbor, Ashley, and Harborage, all have gates that lock the docks after daylight hours. You may be able to arrange something with one for a code and dinghy docking. Harborage has most dock space available to leave a dinghy. There is nothing on the Cooper for longterm anchoring and shore access short of a marsh landing under the Bridge. Could look at St. Johns in the Stono but thats a significantly longer bike ride with not a great bike path. Depending on how often you want to daysail locally id aim for harborage, either upriver of the Ashley River Swinging bridge or downriver and across from Ashley Marina. Safeharbor and Ashley Marina would be more convenient if you could work out a small fee and the gate issue.

Good Luck! Happy to help more if needed
