Danga Bay closed

It is with great sadness that It was annouced the closure of Danga Bay in the Johor Straights Malaysia. Another step backwards for cruising in Malaysia. The developers are moving in to build even more high rise condo,s that nobody will live in !! My heart goes out to all the long term residents hear as they have had 2 days notice..... We are shoving off on Monday but leave behind what was once a well run very cheap place to liveaboard with some very good facilities... Oh well progress

Re: Danga Bay closed

Sad but not unexpected and actually typical of Malaysia...

The business model tends to be - Advertise, get investors, build (or not) the project. Go out of business, screw the investors, start another business...

In hindsight did one think the business model of "free" dockage would last?

Re: Danga Bay closed

Not free but hardly expensive 50us a week !! Been that way for a few months I believe.
Many places around here put in Marina,s to sell housing development...
People pay silly money to look out of the window at boats

In the beginning they were offering free stays...

I actually have an offer from a friend renting a condo at one of the harbor places here. His place comes with a slip - free dockage...

Re: Danga Bay closed

Disappointing news. Can you provide a little more information?

Given that a lot of money has only recently been invested in new dock and pontoon upgrades, is there an expectation that the marina will re-open at a later date and after the condos are completed, or is it intended that that the marina facilities will be demolished?

Traditionally many cruisers have left their boats at this marina while traveling elsewhere in Asia or when they fly to their home countries for home visits. I expect that there are quite a few boats with absent owners. Can you provide an update on how the marina management intends to manage these boats (with absent owners) now that the marina has closed?
