Diesel Central heating

My Bruce Roberts 43 has a heating system consisting of a Mikuni MX 60 diesel heater which supplies hot water from a 70 ltr calorifier and heating through 3 radiators and two towel rails. The Mikuni is 20 years old and is shot. I am looking at replacing it with a 5Kw Webasto Thermo top diesel heater. There are what appear to be good deals on E bay for re-manufactured Webasto Thermo Top heaters. Has anybody taken this route and what is your experience?

Re: Diesel Central heating

It depends on your intended cruising grounds. But for a 43 ft boat i would say you need at least 10kW.

Re: Diesel Central heating

The mx60 is a 7k unit so going down to any 5k in it would give dismal results and actually cause early failure of the webasto unit. I would have to recommend the thermo 90st or the eberspacher m10 may also be a good fit .
