East Coast haul out yard: GA North

Well color me stupid. I thought I had the winter storage figured out but I had not reserved a spot and now I need to find a winter storage spot.
We are coming back from the Bahamas.

Due to insurance we need to be NORTH of the Florida state line.
We have a 20 ton monohull, but a 70 ton or better lift works great, height issues.
We are looking to store May through October.

Any recommendations?

None better. My boat is there now. Read the reviews on Active Captain.

Getting a Fl rider will cost me about $500. So maybe some Fl yard would work?

And it's SUMMER storage, not winter, my seasons are all mixed up here in the Bahamas.

Brunswick Landing Marina might work for you. Are you looking for a DIY yard (which BLM is not), or just storage on the hard?

Re: East Coast haul out yard: GA North

Thanks Ralph,

I'm looking for a DYI yard.

I've spent all afternoon going through Active Captain. I may have one but the insurance BS may queer that deal. I'm new to this game so I'm learning.

Although it's in Fl it's almost in Ga. we have been keeping our boat at Holland Marine just south of JAX on the St Johns river. Good prices fairly convenient and we have been happy with their services, pretty sure they allow diy. They are about to open up a spot for a 50' vessel as we splash on Friday.

Good luck!

Thanks guys!

Initially it had not occurred to me to change the policy to allow Forida. We did that, a few hundred more and some hoops, and we ended up with Green Turtle. I've not cruised these waters before so this insurance stuff is driving me a bit crazy until I get used to it.

Sail Harbor Marina in Savannah (Wilmington Island) has diy spots available (except for bottom paint). They may be able to accomodate the long term storage as well.

Georgetown Yacht Basin in MD is a DYS yard and also has the expert staff to perform any work, also has a 100ton lift and is in a safe location, it's where I haul out when I need to.

Green Cove Springs Marina is well known as a very reasonable and helpful DIY yard.

We run down from Jax for bottom paint.

What a dismal outlook. Hurricane season June through October or November. Storage May through (or to) October. All that leaves, north of Florida only, is December - April, and the cold weather can cut into that significantly. Might be better of buying a land based second home in the Bahamas. Bottom line, solely my envy, and the fact you have two boats. Have you considered the Pacific Coast of the USA or Canada?

Try St.Marys Boat Services, St.Marys GA. 904-219-2896. Rocky Smith.

This is a true boat yard, no pools or bars but the prices are good, services are excellent and they leave the shop open with all the tools and equipment one would need to do any job.

I have been using them for haul outs the last 3 years.

Brunswick Landing has great protection if you want to do wet storage. Price is relatively high for the area.

Good Luck.
