this is kind a different cost to cruise on a power thing

but then I bought a new mew sail last year and the cost of that would have paid for enough diesel to motor 11,000 miles

you are going to pay to play one way or the other
Yep. Sails and rigging vs diesel fuel costs. You're going to pay one way or the other. Comes down to a choice between quiet travel and heeling over or roomy comfort and making so much ice that we have to throw some away.

Each has advantages.

Re: Extra Cruising Cost for a "Big" Boat

You are going about this totally wrong! When we had a large boat for 30 years my wife would spot something we needed. Let’s say it cost $100 and she bought it for 70. Not unusual. So then she would take the “extra“ $30, put it in a column on the side, add all such numbers up at a later time and figured she had free money to spend

Of course none of us have ever come back from the chandlary with an armful of stuff and said, "honey, we don't need it now, but will at some point in the future and it was on sale so I saved us a bunch of money":whistling

how many "spare parts" do you have on your boat that have been there for more than 3-4 years................................

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

I looked at one of those Jeffersons. Really nice boat. But I remember I liked the nice heavy weight which was about 50,000lbs. 50 tons would be a commercial trawler. Can you confirm?

Wait till you start finding expensive items still in the trunk of the car. "Where'd that come from".
