Finally got my boat.

Well, after months of legitimate looking, I bought a boat. She's a Starwind 27. Small but cozy. I'll be living on her once I find a fricking marina that doesn't cater to the 50'+ crowd.

Not 50 years, fifty feet. All the Marinas in the Clear Lake/Kemah area seem to think sub-40 foot boats are a waste of marina space.

Congratulations on getting your boat. Post some pictures of it when you have time, we're still a year away from getting ours. Also looking at similar size ones.

She needs a good cleaning, but she'll do. Now if I can just find a place to keep her.

If you want to live aboard a 27’ boat here you’ll need to look at marinas like the wharf, maybe even watermans harbor on Dickinson bayou across from hillmans.

The other ploy may be to pay a slip fee for a 35’-40’ boat if the marina will accept that in lieu of length.

Well, there's free ennerprize for you :-) What "rules" would you impose if you were a marina owner? Let alone a CORPORATE marina owner? The slips are set out in forty-foot lengths. The marina won't care how long your boat is as long as you pay for the forty feet :-) No different from renting an apartment. You take what you are offered and pay what you are asked.

All the best for you and your nice little boat.:-) I see she is wheel-steered, so what has she got for power? The specs don't mention an inboard engine at all.

Re: Finally got my boat.

I've got a 51 foot boat in Rhode Island that I want to move to Kemah but can't find a spot for it because it's too tall to fit under the bridge. It seems Kemah wouldn't be so picky with that bridge stopping all the larger boats. Plus one of the marina managers said that they are planning on lowering the bridge height further limiting their options.

That is thinking outside the box!!!

Kills two birds with one stone as well-

May get you a slip in a nice marina with good liveaboard fascilities

and

Says to the marina that you are willing to step up a few extra bucks and likely won’t turn that good looking boat into a liveaboard eyesore.

Remember the liveaboard deal goes both ways, you have to deal with them AND they are making a commitment to deal with you on a daily basis.

Good luck!

Re: Finally got my boat.

Nice boat, I delivered a Starwind 27 a long time ago. It was a terrible trip !

Quick story - my wife and I were living aboard our Catalina 27, I was working for a yacht broker. He would offer us easy deliveries now and then. We were bringing the Starwind from Fernandina back to Jacksonville. It was SUPPOSED to have had the bottom cleaned. That didn't happen. But we went for it anyway, we were young. Came around a turn on the ICW and had the wind and current against us, basically not making progress. This was in January and I really didn't want to but we anchored and I stripped to my skivvies and by hanging on the ladder on the stern I was able to reach under to the prop with my knife and scrape off most of the barnacles. It was enough to do the trick and we finished the delivery. That water was Freezing !!!

As I recall we got $100. Lol. The things you do when you're young !!!

Have fun, its a fine boat for what you want.

Try South Shore Harbor - League City - excellent facilities, recent upgrade in resort, docks, piers and facilities. been there a little over 2 years

I have a 35' 5" sailboat. plenty water - floating docks on each side of boat.

Live aboard community - good security. Pool access - family end and adult end with beach music.
