Thanks for the heads up re flash - I'm iPhone, iPad & MacBook all the way so I'll scope out those apps - thanks for all the great info!!

So I can't find active captain when I do a search through apps on my iPhone e (although I do find the free app Drag Queen by Active Captain, which appears to be an anchor alarm & has a great name). Am I looking up the wrong name?

If you stay at Yorktown Yacht Haven your cell phone may work. I know I have hit and miss driving through there everyday. Also just down river is the Naval Weapons station and the do scramble the signals from time to time when loading munitions.

This is with AT&T, right?

From what I have heard from others is that AT&T is spotty through all of Virginia. I think this becomes more of a problem while moving......say, driving down the road. We have Verizon because we can use it to make calls/browse web 2 miles into the bay...if needed.

Deltaville is "country" with no hard set rules.......which is why we love it. We are at Stingray Point Marina but are thinking of a move due to spotty wifi. You should put Deltaville Yachting Center on your list to contact. They just upgraded their wifi to a 3 router system and they are super friendly folks.

ActiveCaptain (no space) is the right name. I've not check for app version of their main cruising log, have only just run it from a real computer with whatever browser. https://activecaptain.com/

Drag Queen is indeed their anchor alarm app.

Re: Good Location Near Richmond?

The way to get ActiveCaptain on iPhone is through a 3d party app. I use Charts&Tides by Navimatics Corp, have US East

It's a real backwater, but there are a couple of places up the Potomac on the VA side, on the Yeocomico River. I've been to Krentz at Callao/Harry Hogan, there is Olversen's at Lodge Creek across from there, and there are marinas at Kinsale: Kinsale Harbor and White Point. There is plenty of anchorage around as well. We weathered SANDY in the Yeocomico.

Took about an hour, I'd say, to drive to Callao from Richmond, IIRC

I happened to go by York River Yacht Haven last night, so I stopped in and checked the AT&T signal strength with my iPad. In the parking lot, I was seeing one and two bars, depending on where I was.

Re: Good Location Near Richmond?

I've not read the thread but have another suggestion.

Delaware City Marina in Delaware.
It's at the North end of the C&D canal.
At this location the water is brackish, but largely fresh.
65' is not an issue, no bridges.
We draw 6-1/2' and only scrape at low tide. Tide range 6'.
Full service marina, nice bathrooms, showers, laundry.
Small town..two bars, one restaurant, 12 churchs
bus service to Wilmington and then Amtrak
A few live aboard, we are weekend only year round
Ice is pretty moderate due current, glass boats stay in all winter
Pretty reasonable rates

DELAWARE CITY MARINA - WELCOME!

Good luck

Thank you so much for checking on this! You are in Urbanna full time, right? And have strong AT&T there?

Thanks! We'll take a look but think we want to be further south

Sorry, hit the wrong button and then CF went into maintenance mode and I couldn't finish the thought. I work in Richmond and commute every day. In Richmond, I generally get four bars out of five. In Urbanna, I tend to get three bars out of five.
