Banjo is a fine deterrant, but I have found that a fiddle has a far greater effective range. Sometimes all I have to do is brandish it on deck in a threatening manner. If I ever find a set of bagpipes I will have the anchorage to myself!

Hey Jammin - if I hear really bad bluegrass banjo playing while at anchor, count on me to be right over . I'll drift along side in the dingy enjoying the "music". Yodeling would be welcomed too, as long as it's really BAD yodeling. Bagpipes on the other hand - well.... At least in my experience I've never known a person adept at playing the afore mentioned instruments to also own a bagpipes .
All that aside, I'd love to run into you someday - sounds like you guys have a gob of fun

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?

Today on the hook I am complaining about the weather! Wish it would clear up here in south Florida. That pretty much took up my entire day.

Still waiting to leave for Myrtle Beach, SC

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?

I travel in the slow lane compared to others that have posted. Since the anchorage was a regular for me, upon arrival see who is there from before. If I get really lucky, someone will need a 4th for the card game of Bridge. Snorkeling of course, and since the last time out was pre-Internet, socialize via HAM radio and listen to other's far and wide travels.

Just spending time with other cruisers is all it takes for me.

Re: How do you amuse yourself whilst at anchor?

Like the banjo idea, we usually put on "Satch Boogie" by Joe Satriani, as a spacemaker.

We have a 400w amplifier with 2 MB Quart cockpit speakers and the internal B&W ones can make waves in a calm anchorage...

On another note, one of my fondest memories was anchored in the San Blas in '07 and met a lovely lady Susan, on a wooden boat. (Hi Sue) She was principal Cellist with the National Symphony in DC. We were discussing classical music one night, and I mentioned one of my favourite pieces, Scherzo Tarantella by Wieniawski.

The next morning, she must have waited till she saw some signs of life on Gilana, and next thing as the sun rose on the most beautiful day, she sat on her aft deck just near us and played this....

Try to get to 1:40 and imagine the dawn breaking over the palm trees at the Coco Banderos cays in San Blas.....
