Re: How many kilowatts per day do you use?

so if I use 6kw in a day that means I used 6kwh in a day right? if I use 7 kw in a 24 hour period that really means I used 7kwh a day right? sooo are we really upset by the h at the end of kwh? he made it pretty understandable.

If you use 6kw for a day, that is 24h*6kw = 144kwh.

If you use 6kwh in a day, that is 6kwh/24h = 250watt average consumption.

Re: How many kilowatts per day do you use?

Power vs Energy
The important difference between kW and kWh is what they measure.
A kW measures power demand [the rate at which something uses electricity to do work], whereas a kWh measures energy consumption [the total amount of electricity used, in kilowatts per hour - Power x Time].

Re: How many kilowatts per day do you use?

41' Morgan Classic (Monohull) All amps/AH are at 12v - regardless if the load was inverted.

920AH 12v Lithium, 2 450 Bifacial rigid panels, 2 160watt rigid panels (Not hooked up yet)

1 Adler-Barber fridge/freezer 12v 4-6A
1 12v/120v portable car fridge freezer 3-5A
Inverter standby - 2A
2 macbooks - Full charge everyday just about. 15-17A (1-2h each)
Ice maker - 20A (variable duty cycle and not too run often)
Starlink - 3-4A
wifi router - 1A
Air conditioning - 120-160A (Only run for 20-30 minutes before bed if needed)
AirFryer - 150A (variable duty cycle maybe runs for 15-35 mins per day) 25 min bake seems to use 40-50 AH)

Lights, Fans, pumps, electronics, Ext - 1-5A (on avg)

We seem to avg 2-3.5kWh per day. Solar is struggling to keep up with demand currently. We are in Lake Erie and heading south.

320 watts of additional solar and partial shading of the one 450 watt panel need to be hooked up and unshaded (shaded by starlink antenna 30% less output then STBD panel ). Once that is done, we might be able to maintain our normal usage.

To note: Our base amp draw overnight is high, 8-14 amps. Its a combination of the Inverter being kept on, 120v portable freezer, starlink, wifi router, and fans. Once portable fridge is moved to 12v (soon) we can turn off the inverter, Starlink can also be turned off when we have good cell coverage at anchor. Those 3 items shut off should drop our overnight amp draw to about 4-7 amps.

“ABYC Standard E-11 proposes a way to do DC load calculations for boats. The results of the basic load calculation can be used to determine the amp rating for switch panels. The data collected can then be used to calculate daily power consumption and ultimately the results can be used as a way of calculating battery size...”
