most insurers have storm cover usually for lower rates you have to nominate where the vessel will be moored and it must be in that position or you may not be insured / for example if you nominate on a mooring but choose to shelter in the mangroves and have damage you are not covered / visversa if you nominate in the mangroves and you are damaged on your mooring you are not covered

links and image are of current approaching storm / calm in mackay marina at the moment

Re: Impossible to get Insurance in Hurricane Season

Thanks All,

Will walk the gauntlet and start submitting requests again.

Otherwise will be investing in the ground tackle instead.

Cheers

It is possible and quite easy to get. It's just not cheap. My costs went down 60% when I left the Caribbean for the Med and started hauling out for winters.

I have to say - then why do you even worry about insurance. Do you think insurance companies should cover you no matter what, where, or when you do absolutely anything? That's quite ridiculous.

Re: Impossible to get Insurance in Hurricane Season

Hi all,

So, turns out it is far easier to get insurance by doing the basic USA versions of comp crew and boating safety. Much of which can be completed online at low (enough) cost might grab a few extra quotes to be sure though. This lowered my score enough to get reasonable coverage, despite not being very helpful.

Palarran: Because despite not allowing risk to run my life I prefer to minimize risk of loss when possible. I would imagine most people think the same way and just have different thresholds and tolerances.
