Re: Livingaboard on the ocean

Well in 30 days ya can get most anywhere From most anywhere!! You can cross the pacific in that length of time and the atlantic in 3 weeks or less depends on the direction and the time of the year ya are traveling!! Connie and I have done 32 days once, when the wind died on us crossing the Pacific to OZ in the early 70s Did not seem that long at the time ! would be a little harder on us now LOL but if ya have the equipment, and the WANT to cross oceans, you can do it !! First get the equipment and some experince and go sailing !!Just my 2 cents

Thanks everyone, you've all been very helpful! Capt Phil, I'll definitely be studying up on all the things you mentioned there.

Welcome to a fine family,,,Here is a link to the couple who got me all fired up (unbeknown to them)about living on a boat and cruising the Oceans.
Plenty of video, all faithfully recording the good and not so good.
Their video journeys are unmatched in my opinion.
Enjoy!!

Re: Livingaboard on the ocean

Nemo55's advice is great we dreamt of cruising 5 years ago, bought our 38' mono 4 years ago, and I have lost count of how many Blogs I have read about people actually cruising, the ups the downs, and everything else about cruising, we pulled our boat out 2 years ago and have been refitting down below, and up top!!!! in 6 months time we will move aboard and live on her for 2.5 years, before we head off, that way we can experience life aboard, even though we are in a marina, but the good thing, saving money whilst living aboard. dont give up on the dream, we recently had the ARC rally here in Mackay, and we had great talks with the participants, gave us an extra lift in enthusiasm.

Re: Livingaboard on the ocean

warvstar ... what is ur budget ? Imho that is the most important thing.

If your budget is $100M - then you can do anything, for ex. buy a swimming oil platform or buy an old aircraft carrier.

If your budget is $100 - then it's getting more difficult, may be a rescue raft would be the solution and use emergency tools (water maker !) to "survive".

I got "sailing for dummies" and talk to sailors. Once you get saltwater in your veins you'll love it.

Welcome aboard to CF.
