Re: Melbourne, FL= Deep Canals?

While we do live on a canal just off the ICW, there's a lot to be said for the alternative of living a little further off the water and the boat at a marina that's a two to five minute drive. If you plan just to rent for now and think in four years you might live on the boat then it makes a bit more sense. We intend to live in our house forever so it's different. If you're doing a lot of work on the boat, it makes it a bit more difficult not to have it at home. There is a lot to be said for the Stuart area. Then we love from Canaveral to St. Augustine. Just keep in mine the further south the milder the winters although not bad in any of these areas.

Re: Melbourne, FL= Deep Canals?

We moved to Coral Cove in Ft. Pierce in 1999. Bought a house on one of the three canals for $188,000. Prices now are between $300,00 and $400,00. Sometimes a bit cheaper. We are right next to the Ft. Pierce inlet, and straight across from the N. Bahama Bank & Abacos.
I have a 41' Morgan OI sailboat & 46' Cheoy Lee trawler I charter from my house. Excellent location. Visit my website at PineapplePrincessLLC.com to see the boats. Access is limited at extremely low tides, otherwise good to get out to the inlet and offshore. Working on getting the county to dredge the channel.

Re: Melbourne, FL= Deep Canals?

I grew up in that area and for your plans I would rent a house on north Merritt Island and put the boat in either Harbortown marina or Harbor Square marina depending on your level of comfort and price. The commute to the boat would be 15 minutes with a stop for coffee and it's a nice area that will have you in the ocean within an hour of slipping the lines.

Yes...GREAT place to go to school back in the day.

At the time, my GF's Dad had a waterfront house on the Banana River near Mathers Bridge in Indian Harbor Beach.... No dock, don't think he could have put a boat there, but still a beautiful location.

Nice. I graduated from there in 2009, just in time for the economy to turn to poop! I tried to rent a house that had a dock so I could at least have my RIB there, but one roommate didn't want to drive more than 5 minutes. The house was 10, lazy bastard!
