You can avoid the 401k 10% penalty and just pay income tax on your withdrawal if you roll it over to an IRA and then roll it over to a Roth IRA.

Sailorboy, thank you for these post, i think they are great. Also Thank you for your service! Why dont you just carry a copy of your DD214 with SS blacked out. Thats what I do, never ran into a problem.
