My Posts

Apparently my posts on sail drives and guns touched a nerve. I was labeled a troll and even blocked briefly by the moderator without the courtesy of an email advising me or explaining why. I guess being new and starting a thread on a previously discussed hot topic is all that's needed for some to make that assumption. And I was threatened with a kick in the nuts. Really? Who has time for that $hit?
I am a real person, with 35 years of powerboat ownership, moving on to a sailing cat in the Caribbean when I retire next year from a career in packaging sales. I did most my own work, including rebuilding gas and diesel engines, designing and installing head systems, bait systems, anchoring systems, electronics etc. I live in Long Beach, CA.

The "offending" posts were not my only ones. I replied to a guy trying to get his pressure water pump working, to another who's water pump">raw water pump failed, and about on board data.

I felt I had something to contribute here, I guess not. I won't be coming here any more. To those who responded with helpful answers, thank you. The rest of you....

Llizard,

Mon, if you can't stand the heat, best stay out of the kitchen. Boatie's suggestion of another bottle of rioja sounds like a possible alternative.

Your posts appeared to be trolls. The mods reacted. I bet you're watching this thread to see what happens.

It's best you choose where you want to be, and if you want to make positive contributions somewhere, here and sail.net are good, and if you want to be snarky, sailinganarchy will tolerate it better than it is here.

Ann

Don't give up Lizard I once became so frustrated that i tried hard (but failed) to get myself banned for life.
As youve found out, there are a few hubristic and caustic individuals on CF but you just happened to find them quickly.
Hang in there because the vast majority of people are kind, helpful and in addition, with your decades of experience you'll most likely be able to help others in ways which the the 'smart a***s' wouldn't be able to.
Have you not yet learnt?..."never let the turkeys get you down'.
Stick around is my request.

Re: My Posts

Firstly, on behalf of the mods, we dont go out of our way to cause offence.

Secondly, there are a number of steps that are taken by us to protect the board from spammers and naughty boys from foreign lands.

Occasionally, being human, we get it wrong.

As soon as our tech checks were looked at a second time, the error was rectified and the poster was reinstated immediately.

Our boo boo and our sincere apologies for upset caused. We dont give free vouchers for Walmart for the error but if one of us comes across a wronged CF member we will buy him or her a beer. Its a rare event so dont be lining up now... and We have to decide if you have been wronged or else you will be buying the drinks...

Re: My Posts

Llizzard don't take their actions personal . One time about a year ago I got reprimanded for my signature line and told to change it when I asked why it was discussed by all of the mods here and they decided to allow it due it not actually breaking any rules. Just some one didn't understand it that was all .I

Re: My Posts

It's interesting how folks view things from different perspectives. I didn't find any of the posts offending. Guns are controversial, but there was nothing overtly out of line. Many people don't bother to use the search feature.
He asked and was advised to use search.

He then posted about drive options. Again, not outrageous. I can see how someone would error in the side of caution. The account was temporarily locked and discussed internally, then unlocked. This is SOP. I do agree that maybe an E-mail might be sent to notify the user of the status and that it is temporary while under review.

Now that it's unlocked, no harm no foul.

We dont discuss moderation decisions on the main board. In this brief response, I am merely pointing out my previous comment regarding protecting the CF board from spammers and naughty boys from other lands who cause issues with virus and other things.

Any public forum worth its salt will have filters. Cf has many. It cross checks many factors like location, IP address, etc etc. Occasionally it throws up a positive that our team of trained Hampsters investigate. 99% of the time we can accurately confirm that a naughty boy is indeed trying to enter the thresholds of CF for nefarious reasons. OCCASIONALLY the technical info gives the correct information YET........... it requires a human to differentiate a naughty boy from an overseas poster using I.Ps and relays from different sources.

What I have written is standard for all organisations including financial institutions, booking sites, chat rooms etc. Banks will shut the account on flags and only open after enquiries. Inconvenient but ultimately the only way to protect the account without verification.

So... ergo and therefore.

I am now closing this thread as all has been explained. We done did our best and rectified when our best fell short for the above reasons.
