New to Liveaboard

I've just bought a Beneteau 331 (2001) to live aboard in Asia. I will be sailing around Malaysia and Thailand initialy, then onto the Philippines and perhaps HK.

I know an almost 34' yacht isn't the largest, but for now it will be just me living on it, and these are quite roomy for their size.

I would love to hear from anyone who has experience or advice about the Beneteau, or for that matter about the Yanmar 3GM30F that powers it, (when not under sail).

Hi Swanee,

Better change your boat from "looking" to Beneteau 331. I'll be in Pattaya in a couple of weeks. If you're anywhere near, I'd like to trade notes.

Sorry, no Yanmar advice.

Good luck.

Done. Re Pattaya, well I'll still be over the other side in Langkawi or Phuket. If you get over that way, drop in!

Hi and Congratulations on your 331.... they're nice boats... I enjoyed mine hugely for 2yrs including a solo crossing from BVI's to Europe...
If you've questions maybe be more specific.. there's a wealth of knowledge on CF..

Thanks for your input.

As a starting point, I'd be interested to know what sort of mileage I can expect from the Yanmar 3GM30F when under engine alone.

That will vary according to prop type/size and sea/wind conditions..... mine used 3/4litre/hr at 1800rpm... mind I also had a crappy 2 blade prop that kept my max speed under 5kts in a calm.... ex charter boat
I sailed a lot...lol
