NYC Living/Broke college student solutions

Hey there,
I am a college student finishing up my final semester in NYC. I have no housing, and I am desperately trying to work out living arrangements before the end of August. I currently cannot afford any of the options that are out there in NYC, so I was trying to think outside the box. I had this crazy idea that I may be able to find someone who would be willing to let me live aboard their boat during the four months I will be in school.

I would love to get other peoples opinions on this idea, and/or get advice on where I could even start looking for this kind of arrangement.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

Are you looking for free or cheap?

Doesn't the school have a housing office? In my day the housing office hooked up students with all kinds of creative solutions from roommates to live in situations with families.

Maybe things have changed. My son's high school doesn't even have a school bus...

Around here it's everyone for themselves in terms of housing. I was careful not to mention that I was a student, as that actually seems to be a negative for many landlords. To the original poster: I live in an expensive city. Living on a boat only costs me twice as much as my room for half the space. It seems to be the other way around for certain boats(ones that are big inside vs length) but the payoff for those is much longer term, the initial purchase price is much higher.
Edit: those who have the boats in that price range are unlikely to want someone they don't know living aboard. Different if you had a lot of boat repair experience and some certifications perhaps, but it doesn't take a whole lot of user error to cause a lot of damage.
