Re: Officially Living Aboard

Congratulations upon your living aboard status. The St. Johns River is our home port too and a great living aboard area.

Re: Officially Living Aboard

Congrats from Boston too! We have been living aboard with a small dog for the last four years, and enduring the New England winters. We will be heading for places warmer in a couple of years. Live aboards are often much maligned (particularly in Florida I here) and there are limitations everywhere - but a great lifestyle that can take you places! Right now we're in the Pamlico Sound and headed for the Chesapeake. As I said that the St. Johns River is our home port, but we're usually only there from Thanksgiving to Christmas and some time in the spring. We've kept slips since 1972 on the Trout River, the Ortega River, Black Creek, Green Cove, Club Continental and at Fleming Island. We can no longer crusie south of the Shands Bridge since 1985 with our 54' clearance need, but we have been down to Lake George before then. 'a beautiful cruising area.......

I actually researched up around the Tampa area for living aboard and the city does not allow it. That goes back about 6 months ago. Google search live aboard docks in Tampa, try that. I might be wrong and hope I am. Same with Clearwater, the only marina I know somewhat close is Palmetto and St. Pete. St. Pete might be your best bet...

I was told there wasn't any live aboard marinas in Sanford but when I went in person there were some available.

Eyeballing a customer can often influence 'Current Marina Policy'..... much more so than a phone call...

Agreed once I met harbor masters and they realized we were a clean adult customer with a nice boat things went much more smoothly

Congrats! I'm jealous! One day I hope to follow in your footsteps and the others already enjoying their life on the water. I would love to hear how things go for you as you start to enjoy your new life!

Good luck to you and yours!
