Phone plans for the great lake or the high seas?

So just curious what do you guys all use for phone service plans, or does it even matter when your cruising? I'm curious because I plan on sailing around lake Michigan this year ( which I'm not overall concerned with signal, as its populated), but plan to start going on cruising trips in the Bahamas and maybe eventually the Med. I was planning on keeping a tablet on board to use as a secondary GPS ( yep I know they aren't the best) and to double check my own plotting. Price is a concern but really Im just curious how you all handle cell/hotspot on your boat.

Wind 459 - I think one of the reasons you may not be getting a lot of responses is that there have been so many questions exactly like yours (maybe not GL, but certainly Carib and Med).

Try a search on this forum -

Go to Search
Choose "Custom Search" (seems to return many more responses)
Type in a general or specific list of words.
And there you have it... should have a lot of choices.

We all have your same exact question going back years. There seems to be no one answer but there are many that fill most of the "want" list. I hope you find the answers you need. We are in the Pacific Northwest heading north and are "in the same boat" pardon the pun.

Good luck!
