Re: Plan? No Plan? A plan written on beach sand?

I like to think of good beer as 'inexpensive.'
Estrella del Sur here in Seville is 60c a caña or One euro 10c a pint.

I dont like cheap beer.

I don't believe in Pope Francis... and I don't think Pelagic has a conscience about disobeying him either...

Re: Plan? No Plan? A plan written on beach sand?

Hmmm, despite what believers say, Einstein made it pretty clear where he stood on God and religion:

In 1954 Einstein wrote a letter to Jewish philosopher Eric Gutkind:

Quote:
“The word God is for me nothing but the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of venerable but still rather primitive legends. No interpretation, no matter how subtle, can (for me) change anything about this,”
He was often rather enigmatic about his religious or spiritual beliefs. Earlier in his life he wrote:

Quote:
“To sense that behind everything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly: this is religiousness. In this sense...I am a devoutly religious man.”
Here it’s clear his religion was wonder and humility that there is always more to know about the Universe. He was not suggesting some mystical guide or plan.

As for beer costs, here’s some data I found:

¢43 seems off-the-scale cheap.

I never said Einstein was religious, I said he observed a singularity of a creative mind.

And of course, I cannot find the quote. My books are in the UK..

As for the beer chart. Any capital city is more than the rest of the country.

A pint average in Spain is $2 euro something...

Numbeo agrees.
Domestic Beer in Spain (1 pint draught): 2.30 €, which is about $2.50 USD or $3.40 CND. Still a far cry from ¢43.

I prefer inexpensive but good Brandy..
Soberano @ €9.50/litre in Almerimar or £15/700cl at Asda in the UK..
Needless to say I'm rarely in the UK..
Got a shock in Falmouth 9 days ago when I went to buy a pack of Marlboro.. £11.95/pack...

Re: Plan? No Plan? A plan written on beach sand?

June will be the third time this year for Bangkok. Several years ago, when I visited, I did the tourist places, noted what I liked and what I didnt..

These past 3 visits, I spent in the same area, and this time in the same hotel as last time. I have got to know the local village, the shops and the restaurants, and am welcomed with such friendliness for taking an interest in them and the place. This is the real BKK, not the go-go bars or tourist place.

In the morning, I go to a local fruit store and buy fresh cut fruit for me, and for the hotel staff. They appreciate it and nothing is too much trouble to do for me... one time I had to leave my laundry in the washer and go to the clinic in a hurry. When I came back, they had taken the laundry out, dried the clothes and ironed them!

Staying in one area has given me the time to explore locally. LOTS to see. LOTS more to see.

My friends have taken me to places I wanted to go. Covered a wide range in 1/2 day or 1-day trips, and only got to the city centre once for a ceremony presentation. A 17-kilometre taxi ride is about $4 so nowhere is out of bounds...

I love working at the university with my colleagues and students. Thais are smart people. Very good at research and logical application.

I walk to the university every day, a 7-minute walk and many shopkeepers wave and come out to say hello.

I know a fraction of the place. It really depends on whether I turn left or right at a road junction.

So I guess I'm taking the slow road in 'learning Bangkok'. It's not somewhere I can check off on a list, but I am fairly familiar now with Nonthaburi district. When I tire of it, I will try somewhere else.

I guess they tax cigs and alcohol heavy because they can. They know people will buy anyway.
