You know, there is a Cal 29 to slips down from me thats for sale. The Owner wants 13,000 for it, but its in excellent condition with alot of upgrades. Including a diesel engine instead of the Atomic 4, autopilot, updated electronics, etc. Here's a link to it. I know its a bit more than OP was wanting to spend, but this boat is ready to sail straight to the USVI the day its bought.

Nice boat. I love the practicality of how the space is used.

Using the starboard side as a galley and only the port side for seating is a nice trade off. We have seating for 6 inside and we almost never use it.

There is a hell of a lot to be said for the step aboard and go sailing boats. When someone cruises in, puts up the for sale sign and say's, "We are done" you've found the sailing pot of gold even though it "looks" more expensive than a fixer upper it most often is not.
