Popping and Ripping Sound

I'm on a different boat this week for a little vacation, a Mahe 36 catamaran. Pretty nice except the cabin in the starboard hull is essentially unusable due to the noise being made. It's a very loud popping/tapping sound. Almost like something or someone is tapping really hard on deck (nobody out three, I looked). Frequently, it turns into a ripping like sound. Seems to becoming from the deck just above your head in the cabin.

This is loud and constant. So loud, it's impossible to sleep. Any ideas what this is?

if its newish antifoul..probably crustations and fish nibbling. They can sound like rice bubbles. Lift the floor and see if its coming from there. Also could be the shroud covers rattling. Go below and have someone wobble the shroud and see if its the cause.

Re: Popping and Ripping Sound

It most definitely is not marine life snacking on the hull. I know what that sounds like and this ain't it. When I tell you it's loud, I mean loud. Sometimes like a hammer blow to the deck, sometimes like a ripping sound as though the fiberglass is getting torn )louder than ripping denim for sure). It often sounds like maybe a lifeline was left loose and the breeze is beating it on the deck.

Googling around, there are a lot of Fountaine Pajot owners talking about this. Apparently some kind of design flaw with the rigging and what we hear is the flex of the hull/deck from bouncing in the waves and rigging pulling around.

I'm telling you, it's a real problem.

pirate Re: Popping and Ripping Sound

If its while your sailing then its flexing of the bulkheads/furniture... the Lagoon440 I last delivered had this problem with the galley fittings/furniture... laying down it seemed to come from everywhere.. not constant just in certain seas.. sitting up you could kinda isolate the noise.. could not fix it though.. but not my problem it was a delivery..
