Re: Protecting Consumer Electronics from Corrosion

On a laptop, its not the humidity that kills them, its the bouncing around. The hard drives can only take some much before they give up.

I work in IT and we supply our employees laptops that get used in vehicles. Average life of a hard drive was about 6 months. 2 years ago we switched to SSD drives and now have close to zero failures.

I would never buy a laptop without an SSD these days..

Re: Protecting Consumer Electronics from Corrosion

The Mac hardware has conformal coating which helps a lot. I had a Toshiba before that also had this.

I once had a Dell POS system (= pro line) and it failed in a year due to corrosion on the memory DIMM sockets.

cheers,
Nick.
