Question about internet at sea

I know that internet during passage and while away from shore is very restricted, or is it still like this? Mostly I have seen people sailing using internet for updating nav charts and sending/receiving e-mails, but what if you're stuck in passage with no wind for an extended period of time, are there reasonably priced alternatives available or is this just a foolish man's dream.

There are satellite options. Either restricted on access or very expensive, or both.

We're all waiting for Starlink to be available for boats but it currently is not.
