Question for Origo stove owners

Found a 2000. Took out my propane. I love this stove and see why so many do. The 2000 came with a black glass lid that covers over the entire surface of the stove making for a good counter top once the stove cools which happens quickly Question...is this black glass lid suitable for use as a counter top and for hot pots and pans? I do not want to try a hot kettle etc ... should it not be. Thanks ...

Re: Question for Origo stove owners

I didn’t see anything, in the OPERATOR'S MANUAL, except to: “Wait until the stove has completely cooled before closing the glass top or replacing the cutting board.”

Love our Origo. Ours came with a wooden board, not the glass. I probably wouldn’t risk it and would just use a silicone trivet.

Yes... although the black glass looks good I think a board is much a better idea. Will make one ... Thanks for the get back... Gary

We had a single burner Origo dual electric/alcohol with the glass lid on a previous boat. Origo advised not to close the lid when the burner was hot.

If the pot/kettle/pan is still that hot, then so is the burner, therefore you won't be able to close it, rendering the concept of whether you can place a hot pan/kettle, pot down on the closed glass somewhat moot.

We placed things on it when the glass lid was down, using as part of the countertop.

Re: Question for Origo stove owners

I have a 2 burner 4000 top which I used to retrofit an electric stove top. The oven is still electric. Mine came with the wooden board cover. I presently don't use the board as a cover, but plan to make a fitted board that covers the whole top and can be swung up when stove top is in use. I also love this stove top. I use methyl hydrate as fuel.

Exactly my feelings too.

I find those sheets of hi-temp silicone come in handy around stoves in general.

Re: Question for Origo stove owners

I leave the wooden board off because it seems to draw moisture, hastening corrosion. I've passivated the stainless with citric acid, but still it comes back. But the stove is also 20 years old (I've done the same with my home stove--it helps).
