Re: Saving for retirement, advice for first boat!

It will depend largely on the number of people living on board. And, of course, sail or power.
Last month I decided to sell my sailing boat and bought a British made 34 ft motoryacht powered by twin Sabres 212 Hp.
Buying a boat is easier than selling it and what I learned over the past 4 years is to avoid maintenance-sensitive boats. I live in the Netherlands and over the last 3 years we have had uncomfortable weather with often hard winds. As I am over 70 now I saw it right to change from sail to power.

Another thing is that many pensionado's are selling their house and change to yachting. My new boat is capable of making coastal trips occasionally crossing the Noth Sea to France/UK.
Avoid steel boats, lots of hull maintenance!
