being a member of search and rescue unit here in the pnw we get some very damp woods that we have to search through. one of the old timers in our squad told me to rub my exposed skin with bounce dryer sheets to repel the bugs. for me seems to be the best repellent i have tried.

Procter and Gamble, the owner of the Bounce brand, makes no claim of extraordinary insect fighting ability; probably because, being totally untrue, those claims would be instantly repudiated.

A few other unsupportable, but interesting, claims for Bounce:

*Cram one down the filler neck in your car's fuel tank and increase gas mileage by 430%.

*Tape ten sheets across both of your car's bumpers to prevent accidents--it repels other vehicles.

*Put a sheet in your dishwasher and your plates will be wrinkle-free.

*A sheet or two in the bottom of your computer case will prevent BSODs [windows errors] and corrupted files.

Where I live West Nile Virus has become a problem over the last five years. It can have an affect ranging from feeling a little sore and under the weather for a few days to death in some (not always the very young and elderly). I ended up with it and was luck that I was only knocked down for a month with flu like symptoms, some people end up with headaches that last the rest of their lives. This disease is transmitted by mosquitos and ones you have it you could be a carrier :$ . For that reason I use repellents. That said... It's a personal choice and you can choose to protect yourself or not. This is a forum for advise and to answer the question "what do you do?" not to impose your personal beliefs on others. Most of us, if we get sick or not, don't want to get bit.

those dryer sheets were reported to cause cancer not too long ago. but that just puts them in the same category as almost every other part of life.

We swear by these babies! They really work...for us. We usually set up a parameter of them around us. But, we also clip them to us or our chairs.

In places like the Bahams or Keys where it's shallow everywhere, I find the best solution in calm weather when the skeeters are a problem is to anchor farther out.
