Re: Starlink Mobile Has Launched

More interestingly starlink v2 will support text messaging. That will open up some low cost offerings

Re: Starlink Mobile Has Launched

The boat we sailed from Hampton Va to the BVIs had the $600 equipment and pays 135 a month. Service worked all the way including when we were 600 miles from the USA and 250 miles from Bermuda. Its still performing at 100 mbs in the BVIs

Our Starlink "Dishy" supports Wifi calling as well, so can use our cell phones with voice as well as texting over Starlink. We have the residential plan with portability.

Re: Starlink Mobile Has Launched

my (probably mistaken) understanding is that - even if mobile - so far starlink is only useable in the country of registration ie cannot be used if moving internationally

is this correct ? can anyone clarify for us ? thanks

cheers,

I've heard of people taking a USA system into Canada and Mexico without problem.

It probably does depend on the country and the local rules though.

That's a commercial plan. Unless you are talking super yachts, not relevant to your average cruiser.

The RV plan is $135/m and $600 for the standard dish (which auto aims to the satellites) and $2500 for the dish that can be flat mounted and doesn't need to move. The biggest advantage I see for the expensive dish is it uses less wattage.

The RV plan can hit those speeds (friends reported much higher in speed tests) but if the local system gets overloaded, residential systems maintain priority and RV gets what's left (best effort...they call it)...but even at 20-30Mbps, that's not too bad.

And afaik at night even the reduced data rate possibly imposed during the day does not apply and you have full speed than.
