Summer boat storage in Mexico

I'm doing the winter cruising thing on the west coast of Mexico and plan to store my Fantasia35 down here in the summer. My insurance says I have to keep it north of 23 deg 58' from June 1st to November 1st, so that's north of either La Paz or Maztilan. So my questions are:

La Paz or Maztilan? Sea of Cortez?
Store in the water or dry store?

Perhaps Guaymas or San Carlos?

Re: Summer boat storage in Mexico

My choices in order would be
Mazatlan- Marina Maz
La Paz - Marina Palmira

But I wouldn't want to be aboard for the summer in Mazzy...did two weeks in August and it was the most uncomfortable we were in 4 summers in Mexico.

Re: Summer boat storage in Mexico

La Paz is just over 24 degrees north so it would seem to satisfy your insurance company. I am a little surprised that they are OK with that low a latitude as it is still well within the hurricane zone. La Paz has had several significant hurricanes in the recent past.

La Paz is a great place though. It is easy to get to by air (via the San Jose del Cabo airport and then by bus or rental car). Great place for parts and repairs. Good place for gringos. Great people. But all of Mexico is hotter than blazes in the summer. But much better than Matzatlan which is more humid and buggier. You can store your boat in a marina in the water or on the hard there. Just be sure you prepare your boat well for potential high winds.

San Carlos is out of the normal hurricane zone but along way to get to from the more southern cruising grounds. It would probably be the least expensive for dry storage of all places.

Re: Summer boat storage in Mexico

Back in the mid 90's we used San Carlos Marina Seca, Marina Real, and a Guaymas shipyard.

The boat was dirtiest in the shipyard with a summers worth of other boat's bottom paint overspray even INSIDE our boat!

Upon return, our boat was the cleanest when left in the water at Marina Real (San Carlos). We thanked the staff for detailing the boat and they said no, it was just summer downpours. The teak decks looked new !

Marina Seca is good especially if you want to do bottom work.
The staff was knowlegeable, and work quality was good.
