Tramp algae

I see that our little dog effectively kills algae as evidenced by white circles in a field of light green on the trampoline. I thought it might be the ammonia content in pee, but research tells me ammonia stimulates algae growth.
Any chemical i can buy to make the tramp white again?

Re: Tramp algae

Hmmm. Not much in the way of details here, but if it came off the dog, soap and water should it. It may be salt crystals, which would kill algae and could come off a wet dog and then evaporate. They don't sweat - they get their cooling by evaporation off their lungs when panting. While bleach will kill any carbon-based life form, I would be really careful using it around trampoline fabric, which is very likely a long carbon molecule fiber.

Re: Tramp algae

Use a mild bleach solution. Spray on and let dry. Hose off. If you are somewhere fresh water use is restricted, rinse off with sea water. You will need to repeat as you get more algae growth. I suspect it is the uric acid in the dog's urine that is making the algae-free circles. We also get grass growing at the water line, and spraying it with bleach usually kills it, and the salt water washes the whole lot away. For that, we use straight bleach. If you try that, empty the sprayer after, and rinse it out. Bleach is hard on the spraying mechanism.

Re: Tramp algae

This largely comes down to the materials of construction of the tramps. Ours, for example, are Dyneema fishing net (generically UHMWPE) and DSM lists most acids as no effect. Nylon, which is fairly common in tramps, does not sustain much damage from citric acid, moderate from oxalic acid, and chlorine will kill it rapidly.

So, first order of business is determining the materials of which your tramp is constructed.

Tramp algae

Its a chemical world. I miss the use of the portable XRF and FTIR that i purchased for the company

UHMWPE might be flammable. Easy to test that

Pretty sure we’re after non destructive testing here :-)

Re: Tramp algae

Years back we had a long winded, multi page thread on killing mold in a boat. One member (I think "Seahag") used a combination of bleach water nad clove oil. I thought it was B.S. until I tried it. Mold never came back.

Thank you for reminding me of that. It was on my search list, something I'd read but could not remember the "other" ingredient. (Other than bleach, that is.)
