Turkish 15-day waste rule

The Turkish government has extended its waste disposal scheme to all yachts apparently.. (original article https://safety4sea.com/turkey-extend...les-to-yachts/ )

Therefore, every boat has to pay 200 TL (11 euros) every 2 weeks to get their tanks and garbage emptied at special locations.. If you fail to empty it, you get a fine of 32000TL (~1700 euros)

Provided a disposal center exists near where you have your boat, it's still a lot of money to pay for basically nothing. Everything that comes out of the boat must be kept for these 15 days, and then deposited there. Garbage, engine oil, waste tank contents, etc.

I heard that even boats that were not equipped with head or storage tanks were forced into this system!

How does everyone deal with this crazy rule?

I deal with it by not going to Turkey. The money is not a problem but having to go for a pumpout every 2 weeks is.

I have no problem with it as long as they have enough deposit stations. No one should be throwing any of that expect per haps waste tank contents in the ocean. 11 Euro is nothing

Interesting that it's on such a rigid schedule. That seems a bit impractical to me. But considering plenty of places in the US charge $10 for a pumpout, the cost doesn't seem too crazy, especially if they're also taking garbage and anything else you want to get rid of.

What if your boat is in a marina for 2 weeks? Still need a pumpout? Does this include grey water?

$5/week? That's what I pay for a pump out, and I can go roughly a week when we're on the boat full time. What's so outrageous about that?

Sounds like an inevitable rule. As boating becomes more popular -so waste disposal becomes a problem !

Provided the infrastructure exists to make the process easy and widely accessible, I don't think this is a crazy at all. In fact it is probably an essential rule.
Turkey and the med have beautifully crystal clear water. So warm and enjoyable. So easy to see the lack of fish life!
But it doesn't show the level of pollution and contamination in what is almost a land-locked water way surrounded by a massive population all draining into it

Re: Turkish 15-day waste rule

So how do they handle folks with seperating toilets, how do they deal with grey water from galley and bathroom?

Btw. seems old news:

This is from 2018..

Or did they just start to really enforce it?

They recently changed it somewhat.. the blue cards are gone apparently, and they added "all waste" like garbage and engine oils to the stuff we suppose to return.
