Two quick questions........

Hi All,
Question 1,
After living on-board my wooden sailing ketch for the last 4 years I have suddenly been 'attacked' by squatting and pooing seagulls and shags! Mostly they perch on the main & mizzen mast spreaders. Any tips to dissuade them......???
Question 2,
I have 4 grey/black water holding tanks on my boat and am looking for the lastest and best enzyme treatments for these tanks to keep them in tip top condition.
There are heaps on the market so I am looking for recommendations from regular users.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi,

Regarding the gulls, one thing I can tell you that DOESN'T work are the plastic owls. I've seen birds actually perch on them.

Re: Two quick questions........

One scheme that sometimes works for the spreader squatters; rig a bit of small (maybe 8 lb test) monofilament fishing line taughtly between mast and shroud, about 1- 1 1/2 inches above the spreader. This seems to interfere with their sense of security, or maybe gets in the way w hen landing... dunno... but it does sometimes work.

All the visual deterrents, like flags or CDs strung around, fail to discourage them. A small boy with a BB gun would work, but seems to be illegal in Oz !

+1 on the monofilament. Birds seem to hate having the risk of entanglement when landing or taking off, or whatever.

Lots of other things will work great - for a few days, until the birds get used to it.
