Use of a Sump Pump to Bring Warm Water for Heater Circulation

Anyone heard of using a sump pump to bring deeper, warmer water into the engine room to use in the seawater pump for the heater? We are living in DC and the water in the Potomac is rapidly getting colder and heater manual states we should not use the heater when surface water temps drop below 40 degrees. We are living aboard and therefore will need heat!
