What do you put as your home address?

Hello everyone,

As we become liveaboards I can't work out what to put as our forwarding address, and I hoped members could offer some solutions? What address would we use for banking/loan/tax etc purposes? I have switched everything possible to electronic versions but there is always a spot for the "address"! For deliveries etc I gather the current marina office / local GPO is an option?

We have our new 'flome' Tiki - a Young Sun 43 and are moving onboard in April. The plan is to initially travel up and down the east coast of Australia for a couple of years while we continue short contract work, then head out round the world when finances are a bit more healthy.

I'm sorry if this is a repeat question I've tried to search.

Here in Europe I commonly use the marina I'm in (if for a while) or pick one on my route... they're really good and hold my mail till I show...
Mind.. they do sorta know me... one of the benefits of being a weird guy with a weird name...

A mail forwarding service is usually your best bet. In the US, the one most often mentioned is St. Brendan Isle ...Mail Forwarding Services at St Brendan's Isle

We've been using this company for about a year and are very please with the service and cost. Maybe there is something similar in your area.

Re: What do you put as your home address?

thanks for this - amazing how off the trail and confused I got using the term 'redirection'... I searched online with 'mail forwarding' and found some aussie based ones too. Got me thinking it might be worth setting up a US one also for shipping boat parts !

Re: What do you put as your home address?

The guy is in Australia not Europe or the USA, so some Aussie members need to chime in and let him know if there is anything in Australia like the PMB (Postal Mail Box) system available in other countries.
- - If you, then I would suggest using a friendly relative or very long term friend who would be willing to let you use their home address.
- - If you are going to live aboard in a marinas for half a year or so then the mailing address there might work - but - for legal purposes like taxes, licenses, banking, etc. you probably need a physical address that does not change every few months.

Re: What do you put as your home address?

I have my mail sent to family. If I need to "see" something they will scan and email it to me. If I need parts or a package sent I use a marina address.
