What Does the Name of Your Boat Say About You?

What does the name of your boat say about you? Do you name it yourself or just keep the name it came with? And if you name it yourself how do you pick a name? Favourite place / dream / person, combined names.

What is the name of your boat and what does it say about you

i would love to hear your thoughts and ideas

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?

DOMINOS we named her that in response to OUR own life experience's and how if you want bad enough in this life to get somewhere you need to 're-stand' the DOMINOS.....

I'm good at it now but was certainly crushed by a few on the journey......

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?

Names often differ by culture.

American boat names are often kinesthetic phrases invoking their feeling of the boats intention: Island Time, Happy Hours, Carpe Diem, Moonlight Serenade, Sol Surfin',

English often have tradional place type names, womens names, natural alusions: Whitebird, Janika Lycka, Reflections of Hayling,

Australians have a bit of a mix, and include Aboriginal names Wadrigal for example, Malua, Walkabout, Ngoombujarra

Canadians often have place names, innuit words, or similar to USA names.

USA and English have a lot of women named: Lady Caroline etc But Australians dont go in for that so often.

Then theres an equal splattering of nautical terms: Meridian, Horizon, Compass Rose.

Americans especially, but Canadians and Aussies too get into humour: Earthling, Asylum, Where II.

In the USA theres lots of sleazy boat names Big Shot, Ship Happens, etc. But once outside the USA they must paint the stupid names out.

Sundowner

It says we are wise enough not to change the name of a boat that has had a long and beautiful history before we met her.

B'Shert. It is a Yiddish word that means " meant to be" and is usually used when boy meets girls and it is just meant to be, it is B'Shert. My wife and I think that applies to us and to our boat.

I thought 'Sea Rogue' was fitting but my wife says it's just wishful thinking. On reflection, I think she is right! Phil

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?

A lot of the boat names I've seen seem to say about the owner...

"I have embarrassingly small and useless reproductive organs, and I'm trying to compensate by naming my boat something that sounds imposing to me (though I'm oblivious to the fact that my over-compensation is all-too apparent to everyone else)."

Nice name. It was also the name of the yacht owned by Charles Lightoller.
