Wintering on the Tennessee/Cumberland River

I am planning to move down river from Dubuque, Iowa to the Tennessee/Cumberland River area in the near future. I intend to winter for a few months on my way south in this area. Is this feasible? Am looking for some advice. I will be running a 32' 1998 Bayliner Avanti (3258).

Well it doesn't freeze like it does up north here in Minnesota I had planned on doing this as well. A light ice in the am and melts away by late morning. You should be fine. Email some marinas before hand and check your locks and dams for closures. Most places are pretty reasonable for prices.

Yes. You can winter here, but you will need to winterize if you leave your boat. We get some spikes of cold weather into the teens. If you are going to stay with your boat and have power, you can probably keep things from freezing without winterizing, but it can get cold and stay cold, but it is abnormal to do so.

I normally winterize early December and dewinterize early March. The water temperatures will get into the low 40's, sometimes a marina will freeze up for a few days. I winter at Leatherwood at mile 73.5. I spend most of the year north of there.
