Work While on the Hook or in Port...

ok, let's say we're down a few bucks, need some updates and need to make some extra cash or income, is there ports that you can sail to where they will "employ" you for the day, week, etc? A good friend said some resorts will hire "transient" cruisers to shine leaves, dust patios, stone polishing. Is there smoke being blown somewhere or indeed fact. Appreciate all input.
Happy sailing

Re: work while on the hook or in port...

Do a search. This topic has been beat to death.

Bottom line, in your own country there are a variety of options for working.

In other countries, there are always places where you can find work as an "illegal alien." But you have to be aware that you are working illegally, so if anything goes wrong (like they decide not to pay you) don't expect any help from anyone. And if you get caught, take your lumps without whining about it, because you are the one who decided to violate the law.

Or you can try to get a legal work visa, but that takes time, money, effort, and quite often a sponsor--so it is usually not very feasible.

And now stand by for the numerous posts from people who will assure you that it is fine to violate the law, because no one ever gets caught. (Though they won't actually SAY that they are telling you to violate the law, they'll use terms like "working under the table," or "off the books.")
