Re: 15 Years Here

hey sb1, I've enjoyed being on the same forum as you, not quite for such a long a time as you and much less active. Will miss your posts and I'll be somewhat wistful when you finally leave. Yes, I think the forum has changed not necessarily for the better over the years. Less emphasis on sailing and more on gadgetry and stuff. And some unwanted politics creeping in - that stuff should be elsewhere.

Good luck and happy times for wherever you are/whatever you do next.

Thanks for your participation Don. I've really enjoyed your financial posts. Come on back if you ever feel the itch.

Re: 15 Years Here

Funny thing, we're all saying the same sort of thing around my marina. And by "all" I mean those few of us old-timers still remaining. Times change. People come and go. It's part of life.

OK, I'll say it: I'll miss your contributions too. Even the ones I've disagreed with.

We've all seen a lot of these departure posts. I'm not sure how I feel about their value, but yours was gracious and honest. That's gotta count for something.

When I leave, I'll just disappear. I won't feel the need to make an issue of it

Re: 15 Years Here

true....how many times has anybody here been referred to as " whatsishisname ??

some time back an old girlfriend came up to me and said "hey, it's me....XXXX....remember me ?....

but sadly I could not remember her..her parting shot to me was" it will come back to you"...but it never did

So I went back to the oldest threads and looked through them and that resulted in me evaluating my continued active participation. I noted that originally I used my real name till some posting made me question that. I noted members who were active and fun to post with, ones that were believable and knowledgeable, but who have just disappeared from the forum for unknown reasons. I could even identify a general time frame for when I changed in my posting tone and the direction of the forum changed a large disappearance of members. From that I came to conclusion that it is time for me to move on. So not an angry good bye, but a fade away.
Hey SB1, are you ever going to make the other 10 posts that appear to be missing...
Your post counter in your profile shows only 19,012 to date

I'd like, also, to thank Don. He has given excellent, easy to follow advice about how to avoid calcium salt buildup in toilet drain hose. Following said advice has made Jim's and my life's easier.

And, I'd like to remind those who never met Don, that his threads about the costs of cruising have been greatly appreciated by many CF members.

Ann

PS. Stu, some of us feel we should say goodbye to our friends, even when we leave an anchorage. It is one of the things many international cruisers do, to tell folks they're leaving. It saves having one's friends worrying about you.

Re: 15 Years Here

Don, thanks for sticking with CF as long as you did. You now have more time for cruising. Come back occasionally!

I enjoyed tangling with you.

True, but do you feel it's necessary to broadcast that you are leaving the area because you don't like the "vibe" there?

Re: 15 Years Here

I find it valuable when a member states that they're leaving, especially when they had special expertise, and you could count on them to chime in and help you though a problem. When they go silent, you might scan the thread again and again, hoping they'll post within their little niche, like the sanitation or navigation gurus we have on hand.
If you know they've gone, at least you don't wonder why they're not contributing.
