Re: 18 Foot Oarfish

I have caught these but only up to about two feet in length. The depths were I caught them were below 300 fathoms. Weird looking creatures especially the lack of scales. Seems like slimy is what's down there.

Lol! We splash December 1st. I promised the wife and kids Christmas aboard with lights and a big old tree, as usual.

Super busy trying to make that deadline, still going strong with no days off since early last spring. Almost done, and she sure is looking great. It'll take me forever to get my pics in order and post to my thread, I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. But I'm planning on taking a month off after we splash and get moved back aboard. Then a month or two shake down, then we return for any necessary warranty work after the shakedown. Planning on departing early next year and taking our time going down the coast. You should have one more chance in the spring to see the Wanderbird up in the islands!

I've never seen one in the flesh. Can you imagine what a 50'er would look like?!

Re: 18 Foot Oarfish

She sees an 18 foot fish, 30 feet down, then she swims down, grabs it by the tail & drags it in to shore?

Maybe it's just me, but I would not want to grab a critter 3 times my size by the tail while 30 feet down, even if I thought it was probably dead. I'd get help first. If that thing was not dead, but rather just snoozing or not feeling so well, things could have turned out very differently. I've come across critters that I thought were dead before, only to see them perk up when approached &/or touched.

Some people have more intestinal fortitude than others. Even if they be women. By and large, women are stronger than most give credit. Of course, there is always the scientific curiosity at heart.

Is it just me or does the dog look pretty stoked?
