A milestone?

If I've done the maths correctly, this will be my 10,000 th post.

Holy cow... how the hell did that happen? I really need to get out more!

I kinda blame Telstra for this -- their internet coverage has gotten so good that I've had a hard time escaping to a place where there was no signal. Offshore, Port Davey and New Cal have been the only respites in the last couple of years, and it is likely to get worse (better?).

Anyhow, I wanted to thank CF, all the folks who post here, the good guys and the bad and even the moderators for all the interesting conversations, bun fights, slander mongering, back patting and general camaraderie, to say nothing of the occasional gem of wisdom.

I've looked at a bunch of other sailing related fora, and this is the only one that has held my attention for long. Not sure why, but it's a fact, so unless I really get crosswise with the mods, you'll have to put up with me for a while longer.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: A milestone?

Congrats Jim!
Yours is always a voice of wisdom, calm, common sense, & insight around here. All things which are much appreciated.

Have Ann put a candle in a cupcake for you, & light it. And if the Sauza Tequila Girls drop by, scantily clad, with a bottle in a holster on each hip, that was my doing

Jim,
Now I really feel what novice means...
i do relate to what Uncivilized said about your presence, tone and contributions. I feel lucky to have found CF, a wealth of experience, collaboration, humour and humanity.
Couldn't find all that elsewhere and you are one of the great mentors. Thanks for that. [emoji120]
Wishing you long and fulfilling life with Ann... and CF! [emoji6][emoji512]

let's see, 10,000... I think that gets you one "Kiss the Captain" coffee mug and an "I'm the Captain! ... and my wife says it's ok to say that." apron.
Congratulations, and keep 'em coming, I always enjoy your posts!

One man's milestone is another man's millstone.

Here's to the next 10k.

Re: A milestone?

according to the counter under your name in your avatar - that was your 10,003 post (guess you were sleeping when you passed number 10,000)

tell you what - I'll reset your counter and you can start over again as a junior cruiser and work your way up

good of ya

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Well, ya know that the odometer keeps on rolling after you pass 10,000 miles, and so does the post count here on CF!

I looked, and it really was number 10^4 at the time!

However, I'd sure like to be reset back to junior cruiser!! Loose some white hair, some weight, gain some muscle and agility!

Friend of ours sent us a picture he had taken of us 30 years ago - it proved the point I've always said to my wife.

When we met and got married, I didn't have a grey hair anywhere - now after 30 years of living with her, I'm white headed and my beard is completely grey.

This is known as cause and effect in scientific circles

Aaah, good question, gamayun, and thanks for the kind words.

A "bun fight" is what you might have seen in an old British comedy film, where all the children start throwing their bread rolls at each other during supper time. It is a metaphor for when all the guys are standing around in a circle, like a group of male dogs, tails up, teeth bared, arguing over what might seem pointless to the casual observer, but ready to shed virtual blood, at any rate. Or at least, so it seems to me. Ymmv.

Cheers,

Ann

Is that the current way to refer to mistresses now? "Different Interests".
Sorry Ann, couldn't help myself. We all surmise Jim's one lucky guy!

^^^^^^^^^^^^

What's this? Trying to de-fuse the 'bun fight' issue?

Bring on the tequila girls!

Maybe they were stopped at Immigration......
