A Shamless Plug for Forums and Bloggers

These folks put a lot of effort into maintaining sites and providing content. The only reward they get, beyond kind words (which are very nice and appreciated) are pennies from the Google ads you see above and in margins.

The key thing is this: they don't get paid for just having the ads there; visitors like you need to click on ads.

It is a nice way to say "thank you" to the administrators and bloggers.

Disclosure: I am not affiliated with this forum; I do have a blog; I am plugging for ALL of the forums and bloggers out there. There are interesting products in the ads, and only recently did I realize there is a good reason to look at some of them; to support forums like this and fellow bloggers.

We understand that thinwater is making a general statement regarding how users can help this, or any other, Forum they happen to belong to. The Google ads are keyed to words the users are posting, so users have only themselves and their fellow Forum members to thank (or blame) for the ads that the Google software magically sprinkles around the various boards.

For instance, the recent spate of gun threads caused a bunch of strange ads to appear, including ads for body armor, ammunition and self-defense training. It might well be that Google knows Forum users better, in a way, than they know themselves.

That's great. Somehow I find it too funny to think that all this pirate talk and gun debate has brought those ads. Its a shame that the pirate debate didn't result in ads for good grog recipes, great wenching get-away destinations, peg-leg repairmen, sturdy treasure chests, etc. =)

But google can cancel your adsense account if you tell site visitors to click on the ads, so ... careful with that.

Believe me, through the science of gigantic correlation matrices and the technology of neural net processing, Google already knows not only when you'll put on your aluminum foil deflector beanie, but the brand and thickness of tinfoil you'll use!

We humans so enjoy the delusion of believing we are, each of us, unique. Yet, that is so, so far from the truth.

Chief, they don't need black ops or remote viewers -- they have your keystrokes and mouse clicks.

Now, doesn't that make you just feel all warm inside?

On another Forum I belong to there are no paid ads, but commercial vendors are very welcome.

If you open an ad generated by Google, don't fall into a black hole by giving your email address, cell phone number, or phone number - it's passed on! I've just unsubscribed to my 64th spam since doing so. Texting to the cell phone is approching a fine art of spam.

LOL....I have thought about that as well. I guess one could put a piece of tape over the lens if they are concerned.

Remember in 2001 when HAL was watching them inside the pod, thinking they had privacy but did not realize that HAL could lip read?

Oh man ... not good. Turns out thetinfoil hat increases rather than decreases the effect of invasive radio signals.

They were reading your mind with ease all the time.

Hopefully it was interesting for them.
