Its one of the most ugly boats to my eye. One wonders who would buy it. I also wonder how often it sails. Unless theres a magazine photographer I bet it just motors everywhere.

Cynically yours,

Mark

How can you call that a yacht. It doesn't even have it's own zip code, let alone sovereign nation status.

HAHA!

Thanks... I needed that today.

These boats always remind me of the movie Arthur, where Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore are talking about yachts.

Arthur:
"Have you ever been on a yacht?
Linda: No, is it wonderful?
Arthur: It doesn't suck."

I can never picture Arthur as a captain, but if you need a visual, just remember Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack

Wow, talk about the owner getting bored quick. The paints hardly dried and he's tired of it already. Imagine what he would want to buy next.

I dont think there was an 'owner' as such. I think it was owned by the builder... as an advertisment. I could be wrong

The owner is Tom Perkins, former Hewlett Packard exec, and author of a novel called "Sex and the Single Zillionaire". This is what happens when those Silicon Valley types get bored.

It's very ugly, but has every high tech gadget imaginable. Only someone with no taste would buy it. Perhaps with another rig?

Actually, as I recall from some reviews she sails very well. Further, the computer contolled junk rig premitted a huge sail area aloft that was easily controlled and reefed. Gotta agree with Hud and Alan, however, can't believe that Perkins is already bored with her and looking to move on. Wow!

A case of too much money, and a lack of thought. I want, I want, I want, and I WANT IT NOW.

Maybe he planned to sail only on the trade winds.

The Maltese Falcon is the epitome of conspicuous consumption. I saw the interview on 60 Minutes where Lesley Stahl, I believe, got to ride on the Falcon and interview the owner. Nice guy, but where's his head? Spectacular wealth makes people clueless, I think.
